All of them are locked to the diagonal by the 16:9 shape of every modern screen, so one bit of geometry answers the lot.

How the geometry works
A 16:9 screen is a right triangle problem. The width is 16 parts, the height 9 parts, and the diagonal is the square root of 16² + 9² = √337 parts, which is about 18.36. So width is 16 ÷ 18.36 = 87.2 percent of the diagonal, and height is 9 ÷ 18.36 = 49 percent. Every 16:9 TV ever sold obeys this; only the bezel varies, and modern bezels add well under an inch.
The formula
width = diagonal × 0.872
height = diagonal × 0.490
4K viewing distance = 1.0 to 1.5 × diagonal
1080p viewing distance = 1.5 to 2.5 × diagonal
The distance multipliers are the commonly cited guidance derived from what the eye can resolve at each resolution. From a distance, divide by 1.2 (the 4K sweet spot) to turn a seating distance into a recommended diagonal.
Worked example
A 65 inch TV: width 65 × 0.872 = 56.7 inches (144 cm), height 65 × 0.49 = 31.9 inches (81 cm). Its 4K viewing range is 65 to 97.5 inches, which is 5.4 to 8.1 feet. Going the other way: your couch sits 8 feet (96 inches) from the screen, and 96 ÷ 1.2 = 80, so you are shopping for a 75 or 85 inch TV, not the 55 you walked in to buy. This is how the math usually goes.

The size regret asymmetry
Ask people a month after buying a TV and the pattern is lopsided: plenty wish they had gone bigger, almost nobody wishes they had gone smaller. The reason is adaptation. A screen that seems enormous in the store (against a wall of other screens, viewed from four feet) normalizes within days at home, while the extra immersion keeps paying. The store environment reliably miscalibrates you in the small direction. Trust the distance math over the showroom instinct, and when the math puts you between two sizes and the furniture fits, the larger one is the safer regret.

How is TV screen size measured?
Corner to opposite corner of the visible screen, not including the bezel. That diagonal is the advertised size. Because virtually all TVs are 16:9, the diagonal converts to real dimensions with fixed ratios: width is about 87 percent of the diagonal and height about 49 percent. A 65 inch TV is really 56.7 inches wide and 31.9 inches tall, plus bezel and stand.
How far should I sit from a 4K TV?
The common guidance is 1 to 1.5 times the diagonal. For a 65 inch 4K TV that is roughly 5.4 to 8.1 feet. Closer than 1x and you may notice pixel structure even at 4K; farther than about 1.5x and your eyes can no longer resolve the extra detail 4K provides, meaning you paid for resolution you cannot see.
How far should I sit from a 1080p TV?
Farther than 4K: about 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal, so 8 to 13.5 feet for a 65 inch set. At 1080p the pixels are four times larger than 4K at the same size, and sitting inside 1.5 diagonals starts to reveal them. This is also why the same room distance supports a much larger TV in 4K than it did in the 1080p era.
What size TV should I buy for my room?
Measure from the screen position to where your eyes will be, in inches, and divide by 1.2 for a comfortable 4K sweet spot (that is the middle of the 1 to 1.5x range). At 8 feet (96 inches), that suggests an 80 inch class screen, so a 75 or 85. Most people who follow the math end up one size larger than their instinct, and almost nobody regrets it.
Will my TV fit on my console or in my media cabinet?
Compare the TV's true width (diagonal times 0.87) against the furniture, and remember the feet: many TVs stand on feet placed near the screen's outer edges, so the console must be nearly as wide as the TV itself unless you use a central pedestal or a wall mount. A 65 inch TV needs about 57 inches of width, which eliminates a surprising number of 55 inch consoles.
Does screen size affect mounting height?
Yes, through the height dimension. The comfortable rule is eye level at the screen's center to lower third when seated, which for a typical 24 inch seated eye height of 40 inches puts a 65 inch TV's bottom edge around 24 inches off the floor. Mounting a big TV high on the wall trades neck comfort for looks, and the neck notices within one movie.
