If condoms keep slipping, breaking, or pinching, the most likely explanation is not bad luck. It is that you are wearing the wrong size, and nobody ever told you condoms come in sizes. Most people grab whatever the drugstore shelf offers and assume discomfort is just how it is. It is not.
A condom that fits is safer, full stop. Too tight raises the chance of breakage; too loose raises the chance of slipping. Neither is a comfort preference. Both are the actual mechanism of failure, which is why finding your nominal width is worth two minutes with a soft tape measure.

How to measure
You need one number: girth, measured around the thickest part of the erect shaft. Use a soft sewing-style measuring tape, wrapped snug but not tight. No soft tape? Wrap a piece of string around the same spot, mark where the end meets the string, then lay the string flat against a ruler. Measure erect, at mid-shaft or wherever you are thickest, and take the measurement twice to make sure it repeats. Length is optional to enter and, as we explain below, almost never changes the answer.
How the calculator works
Condom sizes are labeled by nominal width, the international convention used in ISO 4074 labeling. Nominal width is the width of the condom laid flat, which by geometry is half its circumference. So the math is honest and simple: convert your girth to millimeters, divide by two, and you have the nominal width to look for on the box.
The formula
Girth is your erect circumference at the thickest point, converted to millimeters (1 inch = 25.4 mm, 1 cm = 10 mm). Nominal width is the flat-lay width printed on condom packaging.

The fit bands
Nominal widths cluster into four practical bands. Brands vary by a few millimeters within each band, so treat your band as a starting range and expect to try more than one option inside it.

Why length almost never matters
Standard condoms are manufactured longer than the vast majority of users need, so a condom essentially never comes up short. If there is extra length, it simply stays rolled at the base and causes no problem. Girth is different: it determines how much the condom has to stretch, which is exactly what controls whether it grips securely or squeezes to the point of risking a tear. That is why this calculator asks for girth first and treats length as optional trivia. If you entered a length, we will note it, but do not let it drive your buying decision.
If the numbers do not solve it
Sometimes the right nominal width still is not comfortable. Before giving up, try a different shape within your band: straight-walled, contoured, and flared-head condoms in the same nominal width can feel very different. If pain or persistent discomfort continues across sizes and brands, that is worth discussing with your doctor. A condom size fixes a sizing problem; it cannot fix everything, and you deserve an answer either way.
