What this page does, and why it exists
You already have the numbers. What you probably do not have is a feel for them, because a tape measure reading is an abstraction. This shows the numbers to scale, side by side with objects you already know. It exists because '14 centimeters' means nothing to the human brain and 'about the length of a dollar bill' means everything. What it can't show you: that partners consistently rank size far below about a dozen other things in published preference research. The visualizer is for calibration, not verdicts.
The drawing is deliberately not anatomical. Each measurement is rendered as a clean capsule outline with dimension labels, the way an engineer would sketch a part. You get the honest geometry without anything you would mind having on screen at work, and the result stays hidden behind a blur until you choose to reveal it.
How the scale rendering works
Everything in the drawing shares one scale factor. The visualizer looks at the tallest and widest item in your comparison (your measurement, the study average, and the object you picked), then computes the largest pixels-per-centimeter value that still fits everything inside the frame. Every outline is then drawn with that single factor, so a centimeter is the same number of pixels everywhere in the picture. That is what "to scale" means, and it is the only way a side-by-side comparison is honest.
Width comes from your girth measurement. Girth is a circumference, so the drawn width is girth divided by pi, which is the diameter of a circle with that circumference.
The formula
Girth is the measured circumference in your chosen unit, pi is 3.14159, and the scale factor is applied identically to your measurement, the study average, and the comparison object.
Worked example
Why to-scale beats raw numbers
Human perception is terrible at converting units into felt size, and it is even worse when the topic carries anxiety. Study after study on self-perception finds that men estimate the average to be larger than it actually is, then judge themselves against the inflated estimate. Seeing the real average drawn at the same scale as a soda can or a dollar bill resets that baseline in a way a table of numbers never will. Differences that sound significant spoken aloud often turn out to be a few millimeters of ink on screen.
Honest limits
The average we draw comes from Veale et al. 2015, a review of clinician-measured data from over 15,000 men published in BJU International. It is the best single reference available, but it is one study population, and self-measurement at home introduces its own error in both directions. The capsule silhouette is a simplification: real anatomy is not a uniform cylinder, so the drawn width is an idealized diameter, not a portrait. And the comparison objects use typical retail dimensions; your phone may differ by a few millimeters. Treat the drawing as a well-built estimate, not a measurement instrument.
